When Do Puppies Open Their Eyes After Birth

When do puppies open their eyes after birth. For puppies which are born with deformed body structures or are slightly abnormal the development of vision might slightly vary. They aren t very aware of their surroundings however. Puppies ears begin to open soon after the eyes do generally around 14 to 18 days old. They will also go through several other developments after they are born.

We should not forget that each animal develops with its speed and some puppies may lag behind their brothers and sisters. Their open eyes continue to develop for several more weeks. It depends on the individual puppy. Their eyes are extremely fragile and very vulnerable to the elements. But this is the average time so sometimes puppies may open their eyes a day or two earlier or later than that. Usually healthy pups take eight weeks while other pups with some immature signs can take up to three months.

It depends on their breed but for most puppies this happens between ten and fourteen days of age.
