People sometimes call the average domestic cat a tabby but tabby is not a cat breed it is actually the pattern of kitty s coat.
The difference is that the overall pink skin tone is mixed into the cat s coat color creating a very unique look. Some pointed breeds also allow tabby points within their color standards. A fifth includes tabby as part of another basic color pattern e g the patched tabby which may be a calico or tortoiseshell cat with tabby patches the latter is called a torbie. There are additional alleles and even additional genes affecting tabby patterns which have also been both identified and postulated.
And it happens to be the most common of all the feline coat. The gene for the tabby pattern can be found in all domestic cats. In simplest terms tabby cats are the domestic cats that have a distinct m shaped mark on their forehead and stripes swirls lines or dots patterns are formed on their fur coat. There are also tuxedo cats that are gray orange and cream.
This is similar to the black tabby cat pattern. Bald cats come in the same variety of cat colors and patterns. Tabby cats are among the most popular cats. It is no surprise the tabby cat is ubiquitous.
This pattern named after the fish has the familiar narrow vertical stripes which run parallel along the sides of the cat resembling the bones of a fish. Although there are many variations of each the tabby pattern falls into four basic classes.
